This painting was completed in three outdoor plein-air sessions, with oil paint on canvas panel. I love driving down the back roads where I live on the Western Slope of Colorado. This scene reminded me of my hometown in eastern Pennsylvania, and the Andrew Wyeth paintings I grew up looking at. I wanted to focus on the meadow, with the tree line just taking up a small portion of the top of the painting. I often feel sad in winter, and painting this helped remind me there is beauty to be found in this season as well.
