Formal Garden Mountstewart

Painted in Plein Air in the formal gardens of Mountstewart House, Co. Down, N. Ireland. This is a National Trust property and one of my favorite places to go and walk, paint and think. I loved the solid formal lines of the porch behind the colors and informality of the bushes and shrubs. I have not entered it as a Plein air painting as although it was 90% finished on the day I painted in the garden, I wasn’t happy with the way some of the paint had darkened after drying so I added more at home.
