Better Together

On my last trip to Maui before the Lahaina fires, I had the opportunity to scuba dive at the Mala Pier, where sometimes hundreds of sea turtle go to rest and have their shells cleaned by schooling fish. These two turtles shared a special moment, and I was struck by their affectionate behavior with one another. From a depth of 30 feet I could both see the surface, the very top of a large coral column and a faint indication of a sandy ocean floor. The perspective provided both an intimate portrait of these two turtles, while capturing the depth of perspective of the magical light coming in through the surface far above.
