Dettling Brothers Seed Store. 16" x 20" oil on canvas in planter box frame. Once upon a time, in downtown Akron on East Market Street, Dettling Brother Seed Store (a.k.a. “Dettling Florists”) served the greater Akron Ohio area for more than a half-century. My future mother worked at her family’s store during WWII waiting for her fiancee to return. Much, much later, when I was a young lad, I recall Mom taking us from the hot summer city air into to the mist-cooled, aromatic interior. Depicted in this painting is such a day, with Uncle Ted greeting customers in the doorway. Source image was a historical black & white newspaper print.
