Flourishing Mt Flora: Day, Light, Spring

Flourishing Mt Flora: Day, Light, Spring, Plein Air Oil
Flourishing Mt Flora: Day, Light, Spring
I painted "Floruishing Mt Flora: Day, Light,Spring" on-site at an artist residency at Mt Flora, a historical site on the West coast of Perth City, Western Australia. This is a painting about time and place. This historical site is built on limestone, was once a water tower and then a lookout during WW2, and is now home to a lookout and a museum. It overlooks the ocean on the west and inland to the east from the highest point of the metropolitan coastal area. The site has retained the native animal, bird and plant life, which I wanted to celebrate. The time of the year was spring, and I was able to capture the small window of time when many native flowers bloom. Furthermore, it was a still day, which was usual, as the site is notoriously windy. This was perfect for an in-depth plein-air study of the landscape.
