On a cold November day in the 1980s, I was driving around the prairie country west of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and came upon this forlorn, abandoned house with its windmill. I took a photo at that time. When I began learning painting 10 years ago, I knew I wanted to translate it to oil and canvas. It captures the mood of that place at that moment. It is one of the two favorite paintings that I have done.
