oil on linen, I saw this dead branch and was attracted to the dark gray and white bark in contrast with the deep reddish brown and curled dead leaves. I added some of our local brown moths that are underappreciated for their beauty! And, of course, I love shadow play. This was a lot of fun to paint; just trying to understand the folds of the leaves was like a puzzle.
